Head Start of Northern Fairfield County serves more than 60 infants, toddlers and expectant families.

Nearly 350 Pre-Schoolers in the greater Danbury area are served by the programs.

It has been in existence over 40 years.

The programs are reviewed on a regular schedule by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Children living in poverty who participate in high quality early care and education programs during their first five years are more likely to develop the essential skills needed to succeed in school and throughout their life.

Working with parents as partners, Head Start of Northern Fairfield County strives to break the cycle of poverty by empowering and educating low-income families and their children, including those with disabilities.

Working together, they foster social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth by providing early, continuous, and comprehensive child development and family support services including early childhood education, medical, dental, mental health, nutrition and social services.

Head Start of Northern Fairfield County serves more than 300 low-income children age three to age five in seventeen full and part-day classrooms throughout the City of Danbury.

Their staff is highly skilled and caring, providing learning environments that are safe, and rich with language, age appropriate curricula, and stimulating materials.

Their Family Advocates work with their Head Start families each day to strengthen their role as parents, and to help their parents acquire the necessary education and support services that will enable them to improve their quality of life educationally.

The Early Head Start program is the newest addition to CIFC's commitment to their region's children and families.

Early Head Start serves lower income pregnant women, infants, toddlers and their families.

The program is based in Danbury, as the hub for surrounding communities, and offers a combination of home-based and center-based options, designed to provide early, continuous and comprehensive Pre-natal, early child development and family support services on a year-round basis.

The center-based schedule ranges from School-day (8:30 am - 3:30 pm) to Full-day (7:30 am - 6:00 pm) in order to accommodate the varied needs of families.

Both center-based and home-based components provide comprehensive child development services including education, health, nutrition, mental health, disability services, and social services including family and community partnerships.
